Cancellation Policy
We believe in complete transparency and control. You can cancel your CoupleCal subscription at any time, through any channel, with no penalties, hidden fees, or complicated processes.
1. Your Right to Cancel
You may cancel your paid CoupleCal subscription at any time, for any reason, without incurring any cancellation fees. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current paid billing period — you retain full access to all paid features until then.
For EU/EEA/UK consumers: You have a statutory 14-day right of withdrawal from the date of purchase. See our Refund Policy for details on exercising this right and obtaining a full refund within the withdrawal period.
2. How to Cancel
We provide multiple cancellation channels to ensure the process is as accessible as possible. You may use any of the following methods:
2.1 Through the CoupleCal App
- Open CoupleCal and navigate to Settings
- Tap Subscription
- Tap Cancel Subscription
- Confirm your cancellation in the dialog that appears
- You will receive a confirmation email within minutes
2.2 Through the App Store or Play Store
If you subscribed via the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, you must manage cancellation through the respective platform's subscription management:
- iOS: Device Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → CoupleCal → Cancel Subscription
- Android: Google Play Store → Menu → Subscriptions → CoupleCal → Cancel Subscription
Important: Uninstalling the app does not cancel your subscription. You must explicitly cancel through one of the methods listed here.
2.3 By Email
Send a cancellation request to billing@couplecal.com from the email address associated with your CoupleCal account. Include your full name and the phrase "Cancel Subscription" in the subject line. We will process your cancellation within 1 business day and send a confirmation email.
2.4 By Phone
Call +1 (415) 555-0142 during business hours (Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM PST). Our team will process your cancellation immediately and provide verbal confirmation, followed by an email confirmation.
2.5 By Post
Write to: CoupleCal Inc., Attn: Cancellation Department, 548 Market Street, Suite 300, San Francisco, CA 94104, United States. Include your account email, full name, and a clear statement of your intent to cancel. Cancellation will be effective upon receipt and processing of your letter.
3. Cancellation Confirmation
Regardless of the cancellation method you choose, you will receive:
- An email confirmation within 24 hours acknowledging your cancellation
- A statement of the exact date your paid access expires
- Information about what features you will retain on the free tier
- Instructions for resubscribing should you change your mind
If you do not receive a confirmation email within 24 hours, please check your spam folder and contact us at billing@couplecal.com to verify that your cancellation was processed.
4. What Happens After Cancellation
4.1 Continued Access Until Billing Period Ends
After cancellation, you retain full access to all features of your current plan until the end of your paid billing period. No features are removed early. For example, if your monthly renewal date is March 28th and you cancel on March 10th, you keep all paid features through March 28th.
4.2 Automatic Downgrade to Free Tier
Once your paid period expires, your account will automatically downgrade to the free tier, which includes:
- 1 family calendar
- Up to 2 family members
- Basic event creation and editing
- Basic time-based reminders
- 7-day rolling event history
- Community support
4.3 Data Preservation Guarantee
We do not delete your data when you cancel. All of your events, tasks, calendar history, family group configurations, and settings are preserved indefinitely (or until you request account deletion). Specifically:
- Events and Tasks: All records remain intact. Events outside the free tier's 7-day history window become hidden but are not deleted — they become accessible immediately upon resubscribing
- Family Groups: Groups with more than 2 members are preserved in full. Only the 2 members with the most recent activity remain active on the free tier; others are placed in an inactive state and are reactivated upon resubscription
- Google Calendar Sync: Sync is paused upon downgrade. Previously synced events remain in both CoupleCal and Google Calendar. Sync resumes automatically upon resubscription
- Settings and Preferences: All app settings, notification preferences, and customizations are retained
5. Resubscribing
You may resubscribe at any time through the app (Settings → Subscription → Choose Plan) or through our website. When you resubscribe:
- All previous data, events, tasks, and history are immediately restored to full access
- Family groups are reactivated with all previous members
- Google Calendar sync resumes automatically
- Your full event history becomes accessible again
- No data is lost due to a temporary downgrade
6. Annual Subscription Cancellation
If you cancel an annual subscription, you retain access to all paid features for the remainder of your annual term. We do not provide partial refunds for unused months on annual plans after the refund eligibility window described in our Refund Policy, except where statutory law requires otherwise (e.g., EU right of withdrawal). The subscription will not renew at the end of the term.
7. Account Deletion (Distinct from Cancellation)
Cancelling your subscription and deleting your account are two separate actions. Cancellation only stops billing and future access to paid features; your data remains. Account deletion permanently erases your data.
To permanently delete your account and all associated data:
- First, cancel any active paid subscription
- Navigate to Settings → Account → Delete Account
- Confirm by entering your password or authenticating via your sign-in provider
- Read and acknowledge the deletion warning
This action is irreversible. Upon confirmation, your account enters a 30-day grace period during which you may contact us to reverse the deletion. After 30 days, all personal data, events, tasks, family group memberships, and associated records are permanently removed from our production systems. Encrypted backup removal follows within an additional 60 days.
You may also request account deletion by emailing privacy@couplecal.com, which complies with your right to erasure under GDPR (Article 17), CCPA, LGPD, and other applicable data protection regulations.
8. Cooling-Off Period (EU/EEA/UK)
In accordance with the EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU) and equivalent UK legislation, if you are a consumer in the EU, EEA, or UK, you have the right to withdraw from a subscription within 14 days of purchase without giving any reason and receive a full refund.
